We have a continuing requirement to select suitably qualified persons to undergo technical and flying training for subsequent employment as professional airline pilots.

Vacancies, which occur mainly as a result of staff resignations or fleet expansion, are normally filled by the appointment of First Officers who are expected to ultimately assume Captain rank.

Air New Zealand Careers

All pilot positions are based in Auckland, Tauranga, Napier, New Plymouth, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch. Successful applicants may be appointed to any one of these bases. Overnight duties are also required.

We employ 200 pilots who fly Bombardier Q300 aircraft. All flying is conducted with a two pilot crew and one flight attendant to attend the cabin.

Our Pilot Training Programme consists of a three week ground course in Nelson covering aircraft technical systems, weight and balance, performance and emergency procedures for the aircraft.

After successful completion of the ground course and once offered a position, the trainee will attend simulator training.

Following a pass in the simulator the trainee will complete line training which involves flying with a Training Captain for a minimum of 75 sectors.

  • Technical Refresher Training
